Natural sunburn remedies straight from your fridge
listered, sunburnt skin should go straight to the docs but if you’ve overdone it a touch and find your skin tinged with red, don’t waste money on expensive creams or luxurious lotions – instead, just open your fridge!
Nature’s finest ingredients offer some of the best ways to ease the pain of sunburn and chances are you’ve got some lurking in your kitchen already.
Cold milk
The fat, protein and PH of milk have a relieving inflammatory effect on the skin. Soak a cloth in a bowl of cold milk (the chilly temperature reduces swelling) and hold it on the red area.
Potatoes
The natural starches in potatoes attract and draw out the heat of your skin; slice a few up, lay them on the affected area and let them do their work.
Yoghurt
Yoghurt is the best cure for cooling down your mouth and tongue after eating a spicy dish, and the same goes for your skin. Naturally cooling and moisturising, leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse off.
Lettuce
Whether it’s an Iceberg or a Romaine, lettuce is packed with natural pain-killing properties that can help wipe away the pain suffered from sunburn.
Water
If in doubt, heal your burn from the inside. Drinking lots of water will help your skin heal, replacing lost moisture and stopping it from getting any worse.
